On Friday October 23, Dr. Kimball and members of the Division of Long Range Planning delivered the disappointing news to the Poolesville Cluster PTA Leadership that Dr. Weast has recommended Monocacy Elementary School for closure at the end of the school year.
Copies of the Superintendent's recommendation to consolidate Monocacy Elementary School at Poolesville Elementary starting in August 2010 can be requested in the office of every Poolesville cluster school, and can also be found online at the following link:

There is a definite process under which this recommendation will be considered, including dedicated hearings to be scheduled in February 2010, with a final vote by the Board of Education in March 2010. Monocacy Elementary School is one of the crown jewels of Montgomery County, and the community has declared it's not for sale. I encourage each of you to come to attend our meetings and reconnect with your PTA to understand the County's position and to hear about our plans to work together to establish a focused response to each of their points. Please read the county's recommendation, either in hard copy from on of our schools, or the website link above. We need to coordinate our efforts if we are to advocate our position effectively to keep Monocacy open.
November 12th is your first opportunity to stand with us and support the schools of the Poolesville Cluster as our Cluster Coordinator, Sarah Defnet, presents the Poolesville Cluster's priorities and comments on the Capital Improvement Budget to the Board of Education. This is the community's first opportunity to show the Board of Education our community support and your first opportunity to get involved publicly by bringing your friends, neighbors and children to fill the testimony room and make our community presence known. Testimony begins at 7PM, at the:
Carver Educational Services Center
850 Hungerford Drive
Rockville, MD 20850
